THIS CUTTING-EDGE HAIR LOSS TREATMENT HAS BEEN SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN TO KICK START HAIR GROWTH, NATURALLY

CALECIM®’s Advanced Hair System is a science-backed treatment that uses stem cell technology to regenerate hair, according to a leading medical journal.

There’s not much we can thank Covid for but hair loss advancements is one of them. With thinning hair being one of the less talked about side effects of long-covid, ever since the pandemic there’s been a surge in searches relating to hair thinning, a confidence-draining issue for men and, increasingly, women due to everything from menopause to pregnancy and modern lifestyle stressors.

Rewind a few years and the obvious option was a hair transplant, a costly and invasive answer to reversing male pattern baldness- or, the drug minoxidil, that works by shortening the telogen (resting phase) of the hair cycle and encouraging it to enter the anagen or growing phase with some evidence that it has an effect of hair thickness. Stop taking the drug, however, and the results aren’t necessarily expected to last.

Now the landscape is vastly more optimistic with ingenious solutions like Calecim, a bio-stimulating hair loss treatment that harnesses ethically sourced stem cells to stimulate hair growth naturally and intuitively.

Whereas traditional hair treatments such as a transplant involves the gory process of having grafts of skin excised from areas where healthy hair grows (typically the back of the head) and surgically implanted into hairless areas of the scalp, with a lengthy recovery process and a varied outcome, Calecim is at the cutting edge of a new guard of cell-signaling hair loss treatments that work in an entirely different, less invasive way.

In a recent peer reviewed study published this January in The PMFA Journal, Calecim’s proprietary ingredient, PTT-6®, was found to have a significant effect on hair growth and a reduction in inflammation, a key contributor to hair loss. The brand’s patented source of mesenchymal stem cells produce proteins and growth factors that, when packaged into exosomes (extracellular vesicles with powerful cell-signaling properties) can stimulate repair and regeneration in recipient cells, the study shows. This complex of powerful cell-activating proteins makes up the hair system’s active ingredient, PTT-6®.

Such regeneration has been proven to be effective in treating a number of conditions, including hair loss. The paper, co-authored by top specialists in aesthetic medicine and hair rejuvenation including Dr. Munir Somji and Dr. Neil Sadick, cites an In Vitro analysis of hair follicles exposed to PTT-6® which demonstrated increased cell growth and decreased inflammation in the hair follicle.

"Treatment options for alopecia have been limited. PTT-6 is an exciting and promising new development."

Groundbreaking results

In human studies a topical application of PTT-6® to the scalp of a patient suffering from post-COVID-19 telogen effluvium (hair shedding due to stress, hormone changes or metabolic stress) was shown to result in hair regrowth.

A further case study on a series of 60 patients with medical alopecia showed that when using PTT-6® following microneedling, hair regrowth and improved hair texture and density were reported in 90% of patients with no adverse effects.

Dr Sadick, a renowned dermatologist and researcher in the area of hair rejuvenation said: “USL-MSC exosomal proteins (otherwise known as PTT-6®) could suppress inflammation as effectively as vitamin D with resultant increase in hair growth from reactivation of dormant hair follicles in the telogen (shedding) phase”, adding: “Up until recently treatment options for alopecia have been limited, and innovation in hair loss treatments has been stagnant for a number of years. PTT-6 is an exciting and promising new development that can help improve outcomes for hair loss patients who are unresponsive to more common therapies such as LED light and minoxidil."

How Calecim works

Calecim Professional’s mesenchymal stem cells extracts work by improving cell-to-cell communication, in essence instructing sluggish hair follicle cells to stimulate growth. This kick start in hair loss recovery is particularly relevant in the case of Telogen Effluvium, a form of temporary hair loss that can occur after a traumatic event or as a consequence of pregnancy, hormonal imbalances and underlying health conditions including autoimmune conditions - and even the menopause transition during which time testosterone, estrogen and progesterone canoscillate drastically causing hair loss to occur.

What to expect from the treatment

The Advanced Hair System can be used in clinic and also as an at-home solution. It comprises of 6 ampoules of hair serum that is applied to your scalp after an activator, which is provided, is used to prep the area. After the serum is massaged in, it is then left to work its magic for 24 to 48 hours post treatment before washing. A six week course of Calecim treatments of 2 x per week is recommended for best results, which include an overall improvement in hair quality, strength and thickness.

The Advanced Hair System costs $360 for a 6 week treatment. You can also find a qualified practitioner on the Calecim website.
