Improvements in Skin Tone and Cosmesis with Umbilical Cord Lining Extract CALECIM®: A Same Patient Control Study

Background

Creams for skin care and maintenance for application at home are used to improve the appearance of the skin. CALECIM®, an umbilical cord extract, is a novel cosmetic product used to improve the appearance of ageing skin, decreasing signs of ageing to enhance its attractiveness.

Method

A total of 15 healthy subjects were prospectively evaluated and photographed prior to a four-week regime of CALECIM® Multi-Action Cream application.

CALECIM® Multi-Action Cream was applied over the full face as a thin layer twice a day, around the eye contour area and extending to hairline, after skin cleansing and toning.

Photos were taken prior to the cream application regime, then at two weeks and four weeks into the regime. All photos were evaluated by an independent blinded plastic surgeon for changes in complexion, skin tone, facial definition and contour. Patients also self-evaluated at two weeks and four weeks into the CALECIM® regime.

Results

All patients in the group reported improvements in complexion with improved facial skin tone and definition. Observations from photographic assessment by the independent blinded Plastic Surgeon included the appearance of eyebrow elevation with greater exposure of the eyelid folds, improved jawline contour, improved tone of the nasolabial folds, decreased eyebag puffiness, lifted cheeks, and decreased jowling. The effects appeared to be consistent across different races of varying skin types on the Fitzpatrick scale.

Conclusions

Twice-daily application of CALECIM® Multi-Action Cream results in improved appearance of facial skin and enhanced facial definition.
