How can PTT-6® repair skin?
Aging and environmental stressors can give rise to damaged skin. Fortunately, new inventions in skincare using stemcell technology have shown extraordinary results
Rather than pile on one cosmetic after another, the foundation we really need is glowing, healthy skin. Skin is our body’s most direct organ in contact with the external environment. It does not only protect us from external threats but its appearance is also a direct manifestation of skin aging.
According to Research Progress on Bioactive Factors Against Skin Aging , a paper published in the Journal of Molecular Sciences, “the degree of skin aging is not only a direct reflection of a person’s health status but has also been found to be an important indicator of predicting individual life expectancy.” That’s how important skin is. Unfortunately, over time, skin is affected by the internal and external environment such as disease, ultraviolet radiation and pollution, leading to aging and its less than desirable effects. Furthermore, the loss or destruction of structural proteins, lipids and sugars in skin leads directly to skin aging , giving rise to sagging, lines and wrinkles.
Numerous technologies have been invented through the years to combat the effects of aging skin. Stem cell skincare containing growth factors and exosomes have gained traction in recent times. In Chapter 39 of Cosmetic Dermatology, Products and Procedures published in 2022 by Wiley , the authors noted: “Over the years, growth factors and exosomes, studied in wound healing models, have been adapted as cosmeceuticals for their ability to improve the appearance of aging skin. Dermal fibroblasts, which produce and organise the extracellular matrix of the dermis and maintain the structural framework of tissues, are a major source of growth factors.”
Growth factors are naturally occurring proteins secreted by cells such as fibroblasts, keratinocytes and melanocytes. They stimulate growth, healing and regeneration in living tissues. Stem cells are found in both plants and animals. According to the article, Anti-aging properties of Plant Stem Cell Extracts, which appeared in the 2018 issue of the journal Cosmetics, “they differ from other cells due to their unusual properties, proliferation ability (continuous multiplication), and differentiation into specialised cells (depending on the organ in which they are present), and they are also responsible for the growth and repair of damaged tissues.”
What is SOLLAGEN?
One such stem cell skin repair cream that treats skin problems commonly found in diabetics is SOLLAGEN™. Formulated in 2023 by CellResearch Corporation to treat diabetic foot ulcers, the stem cell skin repair cream’s main active ingredient is PTT-6®. CellResearchCorp is also the parent company of clinical skin and hair brand CALECIM®.
SOLLAGEN™ contains PTT-6® as an active ingredient, a formulation derived from the secretion of cord lining stem cells isolated from ethically sourced umbilical cord tissues of red deer which are farmed for their velvets in New Zealand. The umbilical cord lining membrane is known to be the richest source of stem cells in the body. This discovery led to the formulation of PTT-6® which is able to provide skin with millions of different proteins, growth factors and cytokines. PTT-6® is also the active ingredient that powers CALECIM®’s range of skin and hair solutions.
How does PTT-6® work?
When it comes to diabetic skin problems, PTT-6® contains the essential proteins and growth factors that support skin repair.
“PTT-6® signals cells to increase cell turnover, stimulate collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production, stimulates cell proliferation and migration which regenerates, repairs and restores healthy skin function and promotes wound healing and recovery,” explains Hardik Vacchani, business development manager of CellResearch Corporation.
The power ingredient applies cellular messaging technology to damaged skin to enhance skin restoration. Growth factors and cytokines signal cells to build up a robust extracellular matrix. Finally, it prevents new lesions through the maintenance of healthy skin and optimal skin barrier function.
SOLLAGEN™ also contains other ingredients like urea, dimethicone, curcumin and glycerin that provide the following benefits:
- Urea offers a unique combination of moisturising and exfoliating properties to skin, reducing dead skin buildup on skin’s surface.
- Dimethicone helps prevent scarring and transdermal water loss while still allowing skin to breathe. It soothes and protects dry flaky skin and acts as a skin protectant.
-
Curcumin offers anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
-
Glycerin benefits skin by keeping it hydrated and minimises water loss.
How effective is SOLLAGEN™?
SOLLAGEN™ has been found to be clinically effective in the following conditions: -
- Diabetic Foot Ulcers
- Venous Leg Ulcers
- Arterial Leg Ulcers
- Pressure Injuries
- C-section Scar Management
- PG (Pyoderma Gangrenosum)/ Gangrene
- LV (Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis)
- Minor burns, cuts and abrasions
- Eczema/ Atopic Dermatitis
In a clinical trial conducted among 42 patients in Sengkang General Hospital, Singapore on chronic, hard-to-heal diabetic wounds, SOLLAGEN™ produced a 75% reduction in wound size by week two in 66% of cases, reveals Vacchani.
He further discloses that in another similar trial conducted on 52 patients in Galilee Hospital in Uganda, SOLLAGEN™ produced a 78% reduction in wound size by week three in almost 70% of cases. Further studies supported this initial case series where SOLLAGEN™ was used on several immunocompromised individuals showing that the stemcell skin repair product was equally effective.
SOLLAGEN™ is currently undergoing a multicentric-clinical trial involving 40 patients across two major hospitals — Alty Orthopedic Hospital and Kuala Lumpur General Hospital in Malaysia.
Apart from treating skin problems caused by wounds, stem cell skincare products containing PTT-6® have been shown to be effective in combating the effects of aging.
Studies have revealed that when applied to aged skin cells, exosome skincare products with PTT-6® resulted in a 56% increase in elastin and 83% increase in hyaluronic acid production, plumping up skin elasticity and firmness. They also help improve skin radiance. Stem cell skincare containing exosomes and growth factors clearly have an important role to play in staving off the damage to skin caused by aging and in keeping skin nourished and healthy.
