CALECIM® Professional Serum: Reducing downtime and improving aesthetic results after Platelet Rich Plasma Injections - A controlled double-blind split face study
Background

We are an aging society but we still want to look as good as possible and as young as possible. Numerous treatments, creams and potions are invading the marketplace without much real study to back up their claims, and most of them would include some kind of reduction of post treatment side effects: pain, redness, swelling, etc.
CALECIM® Professional Serum is a novel cosmetic product comprising protein cytokines and growth factors produced in cell culture by umbilical cord lining stem cells of red deer, that is used topically to beautify, promote attractiveness of the facial skin AND to reduce the side effects of combined treatments.
What is P.R.P. (Platelet Rich Plasma)? It defines a high concentration of platelets in a small volume of plasma. Since the discovery in 1953 of the 2 first Growth factors released by platelets (epidermal and neural growth factors) we know of over 300 plus Growth Factors.
PRP would increase the fibroblast activity, and generate more collagen leading to tissue regeneration and rejuvenation, induction of cell differentiation, extracellular matrix formation and improvement, and recruitment of other cells (stem cells) to the site, which can increase skin thickness and overall skin health.
Stem cells are now regarded as the real future of medicine and aesthetics.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the beneficial topical effect of CALECIM® Professional Serum, topically applied once after a Platelet Rich Plasma Procedure.

Method

A total of 11 female patients were recruited, ages from 35 to 70 and without any other cosmetic treatment at least 2 months prior to the study. Photos of the face (medical photo booth) in the same position, using the same lights (normal, UV) were then taken before the treatment and 2 weeks after.
They all had Platelet Rich Plasma injections on both sides of the face: First deep along the zygomatic arch, naso-labial folds and jaw line, followed by a second series of intra muscular injections and finally a third injection series with a more traditional nappage technique.
All had CALECIM® Professional Serum applied, by gentle massage, ONLY on the LEFT side of the face and only once.
Patients’ personal appreciation and feedback were recorded.

Results

All patients reported that the serum treated side was less swollen, less irritated.
Even if there was noticeable improvement on the right side (PRP alone), the left side (PRP and CALECIM® Professional Serum) showed a better radiance, slightly more plumpness, less pigmentation and erythema.
Interestingly enough, even patients who claimed to see no difference in the quality of their skin realised the difference when shown comparative photos.

Conclusions

Adding CALECIM® Professional Serum definitely improved and maximised the effect of the PRP treatment. The skin was clearer, more radiant and as nothing else was added it proves the efficacy of CALECIM® Professional Serum.
